HEIC and JPG
HEIC (High Efficiency Image Container) is the format iPhones and iPads save photos in by default. It is about half the size of a JPG at the same quality, but Windows, many websites and older software can't open it.
JPG (JPEG) is the most widely supported photo format. It uses lossy compression, which keeps photos small but has no transparency.
To make your iPhone save JPGs from now on, go to Settings, Camera, Formats and choose Most Compatible.
Frequently asked questions
Are my HEIC files uploaded?
No. The conversion runs in your browser, so your files never leave your device. You can even disconnect from the internet once the page has loaded.
Will converting HEIC to JPG reduce quality?
JPG uses lossy compression. At the default quality of 92% the difference is not visible in normal viewing; raise it to 100% if you need to.
How many files can I convert at once?
Up to 3 at a time for free. The 24-hour pass ($2.99 USD) raises that to 50.
