Before you take the photo
- Two identical colour photos, taken within the last 6 months.
- Printed by dye sublimation on glossy photo paper of at least 200 gsm. Home inkjet prints are not accepted.
- Plain white or light grey background, even lighting, no shadows.
- Neutral expression, mouth closed, eyes open. No glasses unless medically necessary.
- No retouching of any kind.

Frequently asked questions
Where do I print it?
Print the 6 × 4 inch sheet at a photo lab or kiosk that prints on glossy photo paper. Most photo kiosks in Australia use dye-sublimation printers, which is what the Passport Office asks for. Do not print at home on an inkjet.
Does the Passport Office accept photos made online?
The Passport Office recommends professional photo providers and says online services and apps can lead to problems. Altols does not alter your face; it only crops and scales your own photo. If your photo is rejected you may need a professional one, so take the picture carefully: plain light wall, even light, neutral face.
